IADR Announces Zhejun Wang as the Winner of the Inaugural IADR STAR Network Academy Fellowship

Alexandria, Va., USA – The International Association for Dental Research (IADR) has announced that Zhejun Wang is the winner of the inaugural IADR STAR Network Academy Fellowship. He was recognized on March 23, 2017, at the 95th General Session & Exhibition of the IADR, in San Francisco, Calif., USA. This meeting is being held in conjunction with the 46th Annual Meeting of the American Association for Dental Research and the 41st Annual Meeting of the Canadian Association for Dental Research. As part of the Fellowship, Wang will receive $5,000 USD for travel and accommodation to the IADR General Session.

This new Fellowship was developed for short-term visits to research laboratories associated with the IADR General Session. The purpose of the fellowship is to support the awardee’s attendance at the IADR Academy and IADR General Session & Exhibition, and then to have a research experience in a renowned research laboratory immediately after the General Session in San Francisco.

Wang is a post-doctoral fellow at The University of British Columbia Faculty of Dentistry, Vancouver, Canada. His research focuses on the basics behind the dynamic formation and inhibition of oral biofilms. He’s also an endodontic resident and has a specific interest in how microbiological research connects to the clinical reality.

As the winner of the 2017 Fellowship, he will visit the lab of Dr. Yvonne Kapila at the University of California, San Francisco, USA, and learn new and innovative research techniques. Kapila’s work has focused on understanding the basic extracellular matrix processes that govern head and neck cancer tumorigenesis and periodontal disease pathogenesis.
