Bioengineered Tooth Replacement Opens Doors to New Therapies

Alexandria, Va., USA – Tooth loss is a significant health issue currently affecting millions of people worldwide. While artificial dental implants are the existing standard tooth replacement therapy, they do not exhibit many properties of natural teeth and can be associated with complications leading to implant failure. Two articles published in the September 2018 issue of the Journal of Dental Research share recent advances in bioengineering teeth.

IADR/AADR Announces the JDR Cover of the Year Award, 2017

Alexandria, Va., USA – The International Association for Dental Research (IADR) and American Association for Dental Research (AADR) announces the IADR/AADR Journal of Dental Research Cover of the Year, 2017 for the paper "Decellularized Human Dental Pulp as a Scaffold for Regenerative Endodontics," (J Dent Res 96: 640-646, June 2017).The award was presented at the Opening Ceremonies of the 96th General Session of the IADR, held in conjunction with the IADR Pan European Regional (PER) Congress. The IADR/PER General Session & Exhibition is in London, England at the ExCeL London Convention Center from July 25-28, 2018.

IADR/AADR Announce the JDR's 2017 Impact Factor Increase

Alexandria, Va., USA – Today, the International and American Associations for Dental Research announced the Journal of Dental Research (JDR) holds its highest 2-Year Impact Factor in the “Dentistry, Oral Surgery & Medicine” category at 5.380. This is the first time the Journal’s Impact Factor has reached above 5 and marks a 13% increase from its 2016 Impact Factor. This news comes from the just released 2017 Journal Citation Reports® (Clarivate Analytics, 2018). The Impact Factor is a measure of the frequency with which the average article in a journal has been cited in a particular year and helps to evaluate a journal’s relative importance, especially when compared with others in the same field.

Guidelines for Fluoride Intake — Are They Appropriate?

Alexandria, Va., USA – The appropriate use of fluoride has transformed oral health over the past 70 years, in part due to the guidelines created for fluoride intake. Recently, researchers are questioning these longstanding guidelines which served as advisory recommendations for decades. This issue of Advances in Dental Research, an e-Supplement to the Journal of Dental Research (JDR), presents the proceedings of a symposium at the 95th General Session of IADR in San Francisco, USA and includes reviews that critically examine the current guidelines for fluoride intake.

Caries Prevention and Treatment Highlight Proceedings Published in Advances in Dental Research

Alexandria, Va., USA – Fluoride utilization has led to the significant reduction in dental caries (decay), but dental caries still remain a major public health problem, particularly in underserved and aging communities. The International Conference on Novel AntiCaries and Remineralizing Agents 3 (ICNARA 3) sought to summarize the current status of caries management and highlight exciting new therapeutic possibilities and future research needs. The papers resulting from this conference are published in the latest issue of Advances in Dental Research, an e-Supplement to the Journal of Dental Research (JDR).
