The Journal of Dental Research is excited to announce the publication of a special issue in the Spring 2018 highlighting the latest developments in the field of head and neck cancer, including the role of HPV in the etiology of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), the use of novel immunotherapies in the treatment of HNSCC, and new advancements in the mechanistic understanding and treatment of HNSCC and salivary gland malignancies. The issue will be of interest to researchers in the field of head and neck cancer, surgeons, physicians, and dental practitioners. 

Basic, translational, and clinical investigations that are focused on the mechanisms underlying the pathobiology of HNSCC and salivary gland cancer, cancer stem cells, biomarkers, and new therapies are encouraged.  New methods and technologies developed for the mechanistic studies of head and neck malignancies will also be considered.

All manuscripts submitted for consideration will be subject to the peer review process in a manner identical to the manuscripts submitted to the Journal of Dental Research. Research manuscript should adhere to the following guidelines: a limit of 3,200 words (including introduction, materials, methods, results, and discussion; excluding abstract, acknowledgements, figure legends and references); 5 total figures or tables; 40 references; and must contain a 300 word abstract. The supplement will also accept selected reviews according to the instructions to authors for manuscripts with the following guidelines: 4,000 words, 6 figures or tables; 90 references; and a 300 word abstract. Papers should be submitted to, no later than October 31, 2017 to be given full consideration. Authors are required to include in their cover letter that their paper is being submitted for consideration for inclusion in the special clinical issue.  Papers after this date will be considered for publication in the regular issue of the Journal.
