The 57th Annual Scientific Meeting of the International Association for Dental Research, Australian & New Zealand Division was recently held in Adelaide, South Australia.
The scientific programme contained a diverse and interesting number of presentations with 66 oral and 40 Poster presentations that showcased of dental research in Australasia, the Pacific and from around the world. Sponsored by Colgate Palmolive, 25 students also competed in the Poster competition representing each of the Sections in the Division. Congratulations to the winners, Simona Gatej and Dunia Khider who represented the Adelaide Dental School and won the senior and junior competition (respectively).
The scientific programme included both local and International speakers, with Plenary lectures given by Professor Andrew Rugg-Gunn, Emeritus Professor at the University of Newcastle (Colgate Eminent Speaker), Professor Eric Reynolds AO, Laureate Professor, The University of Melbourne and Professor Angus Walls, Director, Edinburgh Dental Institute and President of the IADR. Dr. Christopher Fox the executive director of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) and the American Association for Dental Research (AADR) also attended.
The theme of the conference “Transforming research for oral health gain” highlighted the Adelaide Dental School's long and distinguished contribution to dental research and 2017 marked the 50th anniversary of the publication of the results of Dr. Betty Fanning’s first fluoride toothpaste trials conducted in Adelaide. Delegates also enjoyed a great social and networking programme which culminated in the Conference Dinner held at the Adelaide Oval.
