Alvaro Della Bona Named Recipient of the 2023 IADR Distinguished Service Award

Alexandria, VA, USA – The International Association for Dental Research (IADR) announced that Alvaro Della Bona is the recipient of the IADR Distinguished Service Award. Della Bona, from the University of Passo Fundo, Brazil, was recognized during the Opening Ceremonies of the 101st General Session of the IADR, which was held in conjunction with the 9th Meeting of the Latin American Region and the 12th World Congress on Preventive Dentistry, that took place on June 21, 2023, in Bogotá, Colombia.


Della Bona has been an active member in the IADR Dental Materials Group for the past 29 years and has made significant contributions to the field of dental materials. He has also served on multiple IADR Committees and as a member of the Journal of Dental Research Editorial Board. He has served multiple times as an abstract reviewer, session chair, Lunch & Learning presenter, and keynote speaker at the IADR General Sessions. During his time as chair of the IADR Ethics Committee, he led the update to the IADR Code of Ethics.


Della Bona served as president of the Academy of Dental Materials, as Editor of numerous scientific journals on dentistry, and as Dean of the University of Passo Fundo where he helped establish the graduate program. He is dedicated to mentoring junior researchers and has served on 129 graduate student advisory committees as well as the IADR STAR Network. Additionally, he has an adjunct faculty appointment at the University of Mississippi, where students have benefitted greatly from his advice and guidance.
