Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) surgery represents a key therapeutic option in selected cases of temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) that are refractory to conservative management. However, surgical indication requires a thorough understanding of joint pathophysiology, accurate diagnostic stratification, and strict adherence to evidence-based medicine principles.
This webinar aims to provide an updated and critical overview of TMJ surgery, analyzing the decision-making process that leads from conservative approaches to minimally invasive techniques (arthrocentesis and arthroscopy), and ultimately to open surgery and total joint replacement. The main clinical conditions (disc displacements, osteoarthritis, ankylosis, and treatment failures) will be discussed, with particular emphasis on patient selection criteria and clinical outcomes.
Through the presentation of clinical cases and integration of current scientific evidence, this course seeks to provide practical tools for a rational and personalized management of patients with TMJ disorders, highlighting the role of surgery within a multidisciplinary and stepwise approach.
