Published on: March 25, 2026

Alexandria, VA, USA – The International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (IADR) has announced Hal Duncan as the 2026 recipient of the IADR Distinguished Scientist Award in Pulp Biology & Regeneration. Duncan, from Trinity College Dublin, was recognized during the Opening Ceremonies of the 104th General Session of the IADR, which was held in conjunction with the 55th Annual Meeting of the American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research and the 50th Annual Meeting of the Canadian Association for Dental Research on March 25-28, 2026 in San Diego, CA, USA.

Duncan is a Professor and Consultant in Endodontics at Trinity College Dublin. He completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree in Glasgow, Scotland, and his Ph.D. in Oral Biology in Birmingham, England.

Duncan’s research is focused on translational pulp biology and applied vital pulp treatment using a discovery to application approach, with laboratory-based dental-pulp-cell projects identifying the pro-regenerative effects of epigenetic-modification (histone acetylation/DNA methylation) during pulp inflammation and repair using pharmacological inhibitors, with subsequent translation of the findings to animal and human models. Duncan is the current Editor-in-Chief of the International Endodontic Journal.

Supported by Dentsply Sirona, the IADR Pulp Biology and Regeneration Award recognizes, encourages, and stimulates outstanding research contributions in the field of pulp biology. As one of the 17 IADR Distinguished Scientist Awards, this award is one of the highest honors bestowed by IADR.
