Alexandria, VA, USA – The International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (IADR) has announced Maobin Yang as the 2026 recipient of the IADR Distinguished Scientist Isaac Schour Memorial Award. Yang, from Temple University, was recognized during the Opening Ceremonies of the 104th General Session of the IADR, which was held in conjunction with the 55th Annual Meeting of the American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research and the 50th Annual Meeting of the Canadian Association for Dental Research on March 25-28, 2026 in San Diego, CA, USA.
Yang currently serves as Chair of the Department of Endodontology, Director of the Postdoctoral Endodontic Program, and Director of the Regenerative Health Research Laboratory at the Kornberg School of Dentistry, Temple University. He received a D.D.S. and M.S. in Dental Medicine from the West China School of Stomatology, Sichuan University in China. He then completed a Ph.D. in Biomedical Science at the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington, USA. Following this, he earned an M.D.S. in Endodontics (Master of Dental Sciences) and later obtained a D.M.D. from the Kornberg School of Dentistry at Temple University.
Yang has made substantial contributions to the field of regenerative endodontics through the integration of stem cell biology, biomaterials science, and translational research. His research program has secured over $700,000 in competitive funding as principal investigator, with support from the American Association of Endodontists Foundation, the Temple University Research Development Fund, and the Pennsylvania Department of Health. His proposal on dental pulp tissue engineering received the highest score among all AAE research applications. Yang has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and contributed to several book chapters.
Funded through a generous endowment provided by Bernard G. Sarnat, a former graduate student of Isaac Schour, and Rhoda G. Sarnat through the Sarnat Family Foundation, the Isaac Schour Memorial Award consists of a monetary prize and plaque and recognizes outstanding scientific contributions in the anatomical sciences, including tissue engineering, tissue regeneration and stem cell research as it relates to the oral, dental, or craniofacial complex. It is one of the 17 IADR Distinguished Scientist Awards and is one of the highest honors bestowed by IADR.
