IADR actively participates in United Nations high-level meetings as a forum to advocate for oral health promotion initiatives, oral disease prevention and integration within regional and country level health policy documents.
United Nations General Assembly High Level Meeting on Noncommunicable Diseases and Mental Health
The President of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) convened the Fourth High-Level Meeting on the Prevention of Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs) and Mental Health during the 80th session of the UNGA in New York, to review global progress on NCDs and mental health since 2018, commit to accelerated action for the next phase of the response for NCDs, and to adopt a new Political Declaration extending commitments through 2030. IADR participated in two multistakeholder panels as well as the plenary segment. During Panel 1, IADR provided a joint verbal intervention (circa 1:50:40) underscoring that oral diseases are among the most prevalent NCDs and share common risk factors with other major NCDs. The intervention also emphasized the need for implementation research and the integration of oral health within NCD and mental health strategies
