M/I Connect: Host, Microbe, and Mouth: A New Look at Oral Interactions

Webinar

IADR Network

IADR Webinar & CE On Demand Library

Event Description:

Although intensive investigation of the molecular mechanisms of virulence of oral bacteria led to identification of microbial pathways leading to diseases there is limited understanding of the social interaction among members of the oral microbiome as well as how the host responds to the infection at the spatial and cellular levels. Significant advancements have been made in high throughput approaches involving biological systems. That also includes development of methods resulting in higher resolution images allowing for higher definition visualization. Many of the state-of-the-art approaches have recently been applied to oral microbiome research. Here we will outline the progress made using high resolution microscopy as well as single cell and spatial transcriptomics/proteomics to gain insight into the oral microbiome structure/composition and its interaction with the host. Furthermore, we will discuss the recent developments in microbiology of endodontic microbiome.
