JDR Special Issue on Data-Driven Analytics for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Health Care

The deadline to submit an article is January 31, 2022.

The Journal of Dental Research is excited to announce the publication of a special issue in the winter of 2022 highlighting the latest scientific advances in research leveraging data-driven dental and oral health analytics with applications to care. The issue will be of interest to data scientists and bioinformaticians, public health and health services researchers and health economists, and oral health investigators and practitioners. The special issue editors are Falk Schwendicke, Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Germany, and Mary L. Marazita, University of Pittsburgh, PA, USA. The deadline to submit an article is January 31, 2022.

This peer-reviewed special issue will evaluate clinical applications of omics-based analytics and interventions, new insights derived from large datasets using advanced data analytics strategies with a clinical, epidemiological, public health or health economics perspective, and methodological investigations around advanced analytics including machine learning and predictive modelling with a focus on dental, oral, and craniofacial data.

With the advent of the data era, the generation and usage of large datasets for healthcare applications is becoming increasingly common. Further, advanced data analytics foster a deeper understanding of dental, oral, and craniofacial health and disease, and enable new approaches in diagnostics and therapy. Notably, data-driven applications are currently materializing and already impacting clinical care. This special issue will highlight the data-driven solutions that are available, how these impact clinical care and health economics, public health and epidemiological research, what kind of methods have evolved, and where action from the community is mandated to improve the quality, applicability, and relevance of data-driven approaches on the oral health domain. We invite original papers and reviews from the described fields. Manuscripts with a focus on basic science questions may be of interest in case they show clinical or other applicability.

All manuscripts submitted for consideration will be subject to the peer-review process in a manner identical to the manuscripts submitted to the Journal of Dental Research. Research manuscripts should adhere to the following guidelines:

  • A limit of 3,200 words (including introduction, methods, results, and discussion; excluding abstract, acknowledgments, figure legends, and references)
  • Five total figures or tables
  • Forty references
  • Must contain a 300-word abstract

The special issue will also accept selected reviews according to the instructions to authors for manuscripts, with the following guidelines: 4,000 words, six total figures or tables, 60 references, and a 300-word abstract. Additional information regarding requirements and formatting of manuscripts can be found by reading the JDR instructions to authors.

Papers should be submitted to http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/jdr, no later than January 31st, 2022 to be given full consideration. Authors are required to include in their cover letter that their paper is being submitted for consideration for inclusion in the special issue on data-driven analytics for dental, oral, and craniofacial health care. Papers after this date will be considered for publication in the regular issue of the Journal.

Published by the International Association for Dental Research and the American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research.
