Achieving Universal Health Care for Oral Health by 2030

Alexandria, VA – A World Congress on Preventive Dentistry (WCPD) symposium showcasing key action areas for reform and transformative change to achieve UHC for oral health by 2030 will be presented at the 101st General Session of the IADR, which will be held in conjunction with the 9th Meeting of the Latin American Region and the 12th World Congress on Preventive Dentistry on June 21-24, 2023, in Bogotá, Colombia.

There is an urgent need to apply and adapt the global policy templates to national contexts, and to prioritize impactful policy measures and interventions to improve population oral health. This WCPD session will feature examples of how global policy guidance can be effectively translated into national action. The examples will focus on oral disease prevention in schools, the concept of essential oral healthcare and primary health care, innovative workforce deployment, and new research priorities towards population-based interventions. It will include the following presentations:

  •   “Integrating Oral Health and Primary Care – Results from a Systematic Review” by Yuka Makino of the WHO Regional Office for Africa, Geneva, Switzerland
  •   “Oral Health over the Lifecourse – Examples for Integration” by Carolina Hommes of the Pan American Health Organization, Washington, D.C., USA
  •   “Essential Oral Healthcare in a School Context” by Tamarinda Barry Godin of New York University, USA

A concluding panel discussion will focus on important aspects of a national, regional and global roadmap towards UHC for oral health by 2030.

The symposium, “Transformative Change to Accelerate UHC for Oral Health” will take place on Saturday, June 24 at 11 a.m. COT (UTC-05:00).
