Alexandria, VA, USA – The International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (IADR) has announced Aina Mohd Khairuddin as the 2025 recipient of the IADR Newell Johnson Travel Award. Khairuddin, from the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, was recognized during the Opening Ceremonies of the 103rd General Session of the IADR, which was held in conjunction with the IADR/Pan European Regional Congress on June 25-28, 2025 in Barcelona, Spain.
Khairuddin is a Ph.D. candidate in Dental Public Health at King’s College London and a Trainee Lecturer in Community Oral Health and Clinical Prevention at the University of Malaya, Malaysia. She previously served as Principal Assistant Director at the Ministry of Health Malaysia, where she led initiatives in oral health guideline development, community outreach and promotion programmes, quality audits, product evaluations, and inter-agency collaborations.
Khairuddin’s research explores the long-term impact of childhood dental attendance on adult oral health, employing life-course epidemiology to emphasise early prevention and oral health equity. Her academic interests include oral epidemiology, oral healthcare systems, and biostatistics, focusing on generating evidence to inform policy and improve population-level oral health outcomes. Dedicated to translating research into actionable strategies, Khairuddin seeks to enhance oral health through informed policies, targeted initiatives, and evidence-based guidelines.
The IADR Newell W. Johnson Travel Award was established to assist new investigators residing in low- to upper middle-income countries to attend the IADR General Session & Exhibition. The award is designed to encourage new investigators to undertake research and to support the presentation of their research in any of the IADR Scientific Group & Network research areas.
