Anton Sculean Named 2020 Recipient of the Distinguished Scientist Award in Periodontal Disease Research

Alexandria, Va., USA, May 6, 2020 – The International Association for Dental Research (IADR) announced Anton Sculean, University of Berne, Switzerland, 2020 recipient of the Distinguished Scientist Award in Periodontal Disease Research.

Sculean is professor and chairman of the Department of Periodontology and currently the Executive Director of the School of Dental Medicine, University of Berne, Switzerland. He qualified in 1990 at the Semmelweis University in Budapest, Hungary and has received his postgraduate training at the Universities Münster, Germany and Royal Dental College Aarhus, Denmark. He received his Habilitation (Ph.D.) at the University of Saarland, Homburg, Germany.

From 2004 to 2008 he was appointed as Head of the Department of Periodontology and Program Director of the EFP accredited postgraduate program at the Radboud University in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. In December 2008, he was appointed Professor and Chairman of the Department of Periodontology of the University of Bern, Switzerland.

The Research in Periodontal Disease Award is generously supported by Colgate-Palmolive Company. One of the 17 IADR Distinguished Scientist Awards, it is one of the highest honors bestowed by IADR. The award consists of a monetary award and a plaque, and is designed to recognize, encourage, and stimulate outstanding research achievements in research and its translation through clinical research in periodontal disease

Due to the cancellation of the 2020 IADR/AADR/CADR General Session, the award was given locally.
