Alexandria, VA, USA – The International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (IADR) has announced Georgios Romanos as the 2025 recipient of the IADR Distinguished Scientist Award in Research in Prosthodontics and Implants. Romanos, from Stony Brook University, New York, USA, was recognized during the Opening Ceremonies of the 103rd General Session of the IADR, which was held in conjunction with the IADR/Pan European Regional Congress on June 25-28, 2025 in Barcelona, Spain.
Romanos is a tenured Professor in Periodontology at Stony Brook University, and Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. He started his academic career in 1987 in Germany at the University in Berlin, where he did his postgraduate training in Periodontology and got his doctoral degree on collagen research. He completed his training in Prosthodontics at the University of Freiburg and then training in Oral Surgery and Board certification in Frankfurt, where he completed his post Ph.D. on Immediate Loading of Dental Implants.
Romanos worked at the Implant Department at New York University in 2024 and later moved to Rochester where he received his training in Periodontology and General Dentistry to obtain his dental license in the U.S. After five years, he moved to Stony Brook University as a tenured Professor. In addition, he is a Professor in Oral Surgery and Implant Dentistry in Germany, and his research is focused on implantology, effects on bone loading, laser dentistry and treatment of peri-implant diseases. Romanos has presented many times at the General Sessions and Annual Meetings of the IADR and AADOCR, has served as an officer in different committees He is the past President of the IADR Implantology Research and Laser and Bio-photonics Research Groups and has published more than 400 scientific articles and eight books, resulting in a h-Index of 85.
The Research in Prosthodontics and Implants Award is one of the 17 IADR Distinguished Scientist Awards and one of the highest honors bestowed by IADR. The award recognizes outstanding research accomplishments in the field of prosthodontics.
