Hirofumi Yatani Named Winner of the 2024 IADR Distinguished Scientist Award in Research in Prosthodontics and Implants

Alexandria, VA, USA – The International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (IADR) has announced Hirofumi Yatani as the 2024 IADR Distinguished Scientist Award in Research in Prosthodontics and Implants. Yatani, from Osaka University, Japan, was recognized during the Opening Ceremonies of the 102nd General Session of the IADR, which was held in conjunction with the 53rd Annual Meeting of the American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research and the 48th Annual Meeting of the Canadian Association for Dental Research, on March 13-16, 2024, in New Orleans, LA, USA. 

Yatani is a Professor Emeritus of Osaka University, Japan. He finished his undergraduate dentistry studies at Osaka University in 1980 and continued to complete a PhD thesis at Hiroshima University in 1984. Since 1985 he has worked as an assistant professor at Okayama University until he was appointed in 2002 as Professor and chairman of the Department of Fixed Prosthodontics at Osaka University. He has also held different leadership positions at Osaka University until he became professor emeritus in 2020.

 Yatani has contributed to cutting-edge research in prosthodontics, implantology, and other related fields. He has published 281 peer-reviewed scientific papers, given 229 international conference presentations, and published and translated 46 books. He has also guided 103 postgraduate students in obtaining PhD degrees from Okayama University and Osaka University in Japan. 

The Research in Prosthodontics and Implants Award is one of the 17 IADR Distinguished Scientist Awards and one of the highest honors bestowed by IADR. The award recognizes outstanding research accomplishments in the field of prosthodontics.
