IADR/AADR Announces Recipients of the 2020 William J. Gies Awards

Alexandria, Va., USA, May 6, 2020 – The International Association for Dental Research (IADR) and American Association for Dental Research (AADR) announced the 2020 recipients of the IADR/AADR William J. Gies Awards for the best papers published in the IADR/AADR Journal of Dental Research.

These awards are presented in three categories: Biological Research, Biomaterials & Bioengineering Research and Clinical Research.

  1. The award in the Biological Research category is presented to N.L. Hammond, K.J. Brookes, and M.J. Dixon for the paper “Ectopic Hedgehog Signaling Causes Cleft Palate and Defective Osteogenesis,” J Dent Res 97(13): 1485-1493, 2018.

  2. The award in the Biomaterials and Bioengineering Research category is presented to E.E. Smith, S. Angstadt, N. Monteiro, W. Zhang, A Khademhosseini, and P.C. Yelick, for the paper “Bioengineered Tooth Buds Exhibit Features of Natural Tooth Buds,” J Dent Res 97(10): 1144-1151, 2018.

  3. The award in the Clinical Research category is presented to O. UrquhartM.P. TampiL. PilcherR.L. SlaytonM.W.B. AraujoM. FontanaS. Guzmán-ArmstrongM.M. NascimentoB.B. NovýN. TinanoffR.J. Carrasco-Labra for the paper “Nonrestorative Treatments for Caries: Systematic Review and Network Meta-analysis,” J Dent Res 98(1): 14-26, 2019.

The award is named for William J. Gies, the founder of the Journal of Dental Research. The awards consist of $1,000 USD and a plaque.

Due to the cancellation of the 2020 IADR/AADR/CADR General Session, the award was given locally.
