Lais Cardoso Named Recipient of the 2025 IADR Toshio Nakao Fellowship

Alexandria, VA, USA – The International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (IADR) has announced Lais Cardoso as the 2025 recipient of the IADR Toshio Nakao Fellowship. Cardoso, from São Paulo State University, Brazil, was recognized during the Opening Ceremonies of the 103rd General Session of the IADR, which was held in conjunction with the IADR/Pan European Regional Congress on June 25-28, 2025 in Barcelona, Spain.

Cardoso earned her Master's degree in Oral Rehabilitation in 2019 and her Ph.D. in Dentistry in 2024, during which time her studies focused on innovative topics that explored the intersection of studying bioactive compounds/treatments for inflammation-related conditions, the development of titanium modified surfaces, and biomaterial synthesis for tissue engineering applications.

As a postdoctoral researcher, Cardoso is actively engaged in investigating and synthesizing biomaterials for periodontal regeneration and inflammation modulation. Her research interests include dental materials and regenerative techniques, with an emphasis on bioactive scaffolds for periodontal regeneration.

Supported by GC Corporation, the IADR Toshio Nakao Fellowship, supported by GC Corporation, is designed to support a young investigator in obtaining training and experience in dental materials science at a center of excellence. The fellow will receive funding for accommodation, subsistence, and travel (up to $15,000).
