María Paula Contreras Becerra Named Recipient of the 2023 IADR David B. Scott Fellowship

Alexandria, VA – The International Association for Dental Research (IADR) has announced that María Paula Contreras Becerra is the 2023 recipient of the IADR David B. Scott Fellowship. Contreras Becerra, from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia (UNAL), Bogotá, was recognized during the Opening Ceremonies of the 101st General Session of the IADR, which was held in conjunction with the 9th Meeting of the Latin American Region and the 12th World Congress on Preventive Dentistry, that took place on June 21, 2023, in Bogotá, Colombia.

Contreras Becerra’s work, “Implementation of the Re-Aim Tool for the Assessment of the Impact of the Service Remote Orientation in the Population of Users Accessing the ENtrauma Service,” is part of the line that develops the tele-orientation service for dentoalveolar trauma and has been presented as the tool for evaluating the impact of the service once upon implementation. In accordance with the evidence described in reference to dentoalveolar trauma and the considerable prevalence that traumatic dentoalveolar injuries represent in Colombia and the rest of the world, a tele-orientation and tele-support system is being developed by the UNAL School of Dentistry to generate attention and minimize the damage of a problem already recognized by the World Health Organization as a public health issue.

The David B. Scott Fellowship is normally awarded annually to one dental student in one IADR Division and will rotate alphabetically among the Divisions. It is the Division's responsibility to select the recipient by any method it devises, but the Division must present the candidate's name and the proposal for his or her research experience to the IADR Board for approval. The David B. Scott Fellowship is funded at $2,500 and is awarded this year in the IADR Colombian Division.
