Matthias Kern Named Recipient of the Distinguished Scientist Award in Prosthodontics and Implants Research

Alexandria, Va., USA, May 6, 2020 – The International Association for Dental Research (IADR) announced Dr. Matthias Kern, Christian-Albrechts University at Kiel, Germany, as the 2020 recipient of the Distinguished Scientist Award in Prosthodontics and Implants Research.

Kern is Professor and Chairman, Department of Prosthodontics, Propaedeutics and Dental Materials, School of Dentistry, Christian-Albrechts University at Kiel. Born in 1958, he received his undergraduate education in Dentistry from 1980 to 1985 in Freiburg, Germany, graduating from School of Dentistry in 1985. From 1985 to 1989 he was Assistant Professor in the Department of Prosthodontics, School of Dentistry, Albert-Ludwigs University, Freiburg.

In 1987 he completed his D.M.D. thesis and was later appointed to the following positions: 1989 Academic Lecturer, 1991 Senior Academic Lecturer, and from 1991-1993 Visiting Research Associate Professor, University of Maryland at Baltimore, USA (Grant of the German Society of Research).

Kern completed his Ph.D. thesis (Habilitation) in 1995 and became Associate Professor of the Department of Prosthodontics, School of Dentistry, Albert-Ludwigs University in Freiburg. In 1997 Dr. Kern became Professor and Chairman of the Department of Prosthodontics, Propaedeutics and Dental Materials, School of Dentistry, Christian-Albrechts University at Kiel, Germany.

The Research in Prosthodontics and Implants Award is one of the 17 IADR Distinguished Scientist Awards and one of the highest honors bestowed by IADR. This award consists of a monetary prize and plaque and gives recognition to outstanding research accomplishments in the field of Prosthodontics.

Due to the cancellation of the 2020 IADR/AADR/CADR General Session, the award was given locally.
