NIH Mock Peer Review Study Section

Alexandria, VA, USA – A Hands-on Workshop providing key insights into the funding application review process at the National Institute for Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) was presented at the 102nd General Session of the IADR, which was held in conjunction with the 53rd Annual Meeting of the American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research and the 48th Annual Meeting of the Canadian Association for Dental Research, on March 13-16, 2024, in New Orleans, LA, USA.

The NIDCR is a major source of funding for dental, oral, and craniofacial research in the United States. As such, competition among funding applications is quite strong. Participants in this Hands-on Workshop watched and listened to simulated discussions of three mock grant applications of the type typically reviewed at a NIDCR study section.

The purpose of the workshop was to illustrate how reviewers apply National Institute of Health (NIH) review policies and procedures to evaluate the scientific and technical merit of grant applications at real peer review meetings. The session was narrated to prompt participants to consider important points as they were brought up during the discussions. By gaining a greater understanding of the issues reviewers focus on, participants were given valuable insights into improving their future grant applications.

Organized by Tom O'Farrell, the Hands-on Workshop, “NIH Mock Peer Review Study Section” took place on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 2 p.m. Central Standard Time (UTC-6).
