Alexandria, VA, USA – The International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (IADR) has announced Paul Cooper as the 2024 IADR Distinguished Scientist Award in Pulp Biology and Regeneration. Cooper, from The University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand, was recognized during the Opening Ceremonies of the 102nd General Session of the IADR, which was held in conjunction with the 53rd Annual Meeting of the American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research and the 48th Annual Meeting of the Canadian Association for Dental Research, on March 13-16, 2024, in New Orleans, LA, USA.
Cooper is Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry at The University of Otago and the John Arnaud Bell Professor of Oral Biology. He completed his PhD at the University of Birmingham, England, UK in 1995. He has over 200 research peer reviewed publications and has authored and edited 12 book chapters in oral and pulp biology. He has delivered over 40 invited lectures globally and supervised more than 40 Doctoral students and been awarded over NZ$10 million (equivalent) in research funding.
In 2010, Cooper was awarded the IADR Young Investigator Award and served as President of the IADR Pulp Biology and Regeneration Group.He is currently the President of the IADR Australia/New Zealand Division.
Cooper was visiting chair at several universities around the world and serves as editor and on editorial boards for several leading dental journals. He also completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (PGCILTHE) in 2003 and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Research and Development Society of Australasia.
Supported by Dentsply Sirona, the IADR Pulp Biology and Regeneration Award recognizes, encourages, and stimulates outstanding research contributions in the field of pulp biology. As one of the 17 IADR Distinguished Scientist Awards, this award is one of the highest honors bestowed by IADR.
