Stefan Listl Named Recipient of the 2025 IADR Distinguished Scientist Award in Behavioral, Epidemiologic, and Health Services Research

Alexandria, VA, USA – The International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (IADR) has announced Stefan Listl as the 2025 recipient of the IADR Distinguished Scientist Award in Behavioral, Epidemiologic, and Health Services Research. Listl, from Heidelberg University, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, was recognized during the Opening Ceremonies of the 103rd General Session of the IADR, which was held in conjunction with the IADR/Pan European Regional Congress on June 25-28, 2025 in Barcelona, Spain.

Listl is Professor of Quality and Safety of Oral Health Care at Radboud University in the Netherlands, as well as Professor of Translational Health Economics and Director of the Oral Health Section at Heidelberg Institute of Global Health in Germany. He is trained as both a dentist and economist, qualifying as a dentist from the University of Regensburg, Germany before going on to obtain master’s degrees in both economics and health economics. He then completed a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Mannheim, Germany.

Listl is widely recognized as a foremost researcher in oral health systems and the economic and social value of oral health and care. He has published over 130 academic papers, monographs, book chapters, and other contributions, and has spoken at several oral health policy events such as United Nations High-Level Meetings and in the EU Parliament. His recent grant funding includes the EU-funded Horizon projects DELIVER (DELiberative ImproVEment of ORal Care Quality) and PRUDENT (Prioritization, Incentives and Resource use for sUstainable DENTistry) for which he serves as coordinating Principal Investigator.

The IADR Distinguished Scientist Award in Behavioral, Epidemiological, and Health Services Research is one of the 17 IADR Distinguished Scientist Awards and it is one of the highest honors bestowed by IADR. The award consists of a monetary award and a plaque, and is designed to stimulate, encourage, and recognize behavioral science and health services research as they relate to dentistry.
