Yuji Mishina Named Recipient of the 2025 IADR Distinguished Scientist Award in Craniofacial Biology Research

Alexandria, VA, USA – The International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (IADR) has announced Yuji Mishina as the 2025 recipient of the IADR Distinguished Scientist Award in Craniofacial Biology Research. Mishina, from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA, was recognized during the Opening Ceremonies of the 103rd General Session of the IADR, which was held in conjunction with the IADR/Pan European Regional Congress on June 25-28, 2025 in Barcelona, Spain.

Mishina received his undergraduate degrees at the University of Tokyo, Japan, where he completed a Ph.D. in molecular biology. He has been at the University of Michigan since 2022, where he started as a professor in the Department of Biologic and Materials Sciences & Prosthodontics. Mishina’s research is characterized by continuing themes in the molecular regulation of craniofacial development.

His research objective is to understand the pathological mechanisms of gene-regulated growth and the development of organs and tissues with the goal of devising therapeutics for clinical applications. He has been published in various journals and his research has been funded continuously for three decades.

The IADR Distinguished Scientist Award in Craniofacial Biology Research recognizes individuals who have contributed to the body of knowledge in craniofacial biology over a significant period, and whose research contributions have been accepted by the scientific community. It is one of the 17 IADR Distinguished Scientist Awards and is one of the highest honors bestowed by IADR. The award consists of a monetary award and a plaque.
