Alexandria, VA, USA – The International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (IADR) has announced Yun-Po Zhang as the 2025 recipient of the IADR Distinguished Scientist Award in Pharmacology/Therapeutics/Toxicology Research. Zhang, from the Colgate-Palmolive Company, New York, USA, was recognized during the Opening Ceremonies of the 103rd General Session of the IADR, which was held in conjunction with the IADR/Pan European Regional Congress on June 25-28, 2025 in Barcelona, Spain.
Zhang serves as Senior Vice President and Distinguished Fellow in the clinical dental research department at Colgate-Palmolive. He is also an adjunct professor at the ADA Forsyth Institute and an advisor at Columbia University Business School. Zhang has a B.Sc. in electrical engineering from Fudan University, a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Northeastern University, an eMBA from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School, and a D.D.S. with honors from Dalian Medical University.
Zhang was previously at the Forsyth Institute where he played a pivotal role in developing a model of demineralization/remineralization and worked on the use of crevicular fluid as a diagnostic. He played an important role in establishing the use of arginine containing toothpaste for dentinal hypersensitivity. Zhang has published over 200 scientific papers and currently holds three U.S. patents.
The Pharmacology/Therapeutics/Toxicology Research Award is one of the 17 IADR Distinguished Scientist Awards and is one of the highest honors bestowed by IADR. The Award recognizes outstanding and sustained peer-reviewed research that has contributed to our knowledge of the mechanisms, efficacy, or safety of drugs used in dentistry.
