IADR PRG SUNSTAR Foundation Award

• Current member of IADR-PRG.
• PhD or Masters' student (in the final year of the program at the time of award) or post-doctoral scientist (within 24-months of successful completion of a Ph.D. at the time of the submission deadline) in an academic institution.
• At an academic rank below associate professor or equivalent. 
   

Projects can be clinical, basic, or translational science; however, preference will be given to projects involving collaborative research, involving two or more research groups or specialties. Occasionally, a priority topic will be announced and only projects related to this will be eligible for evaluation. 
 

The award selection committee will be organized by PRG. The committee will consist of PRG-appointed members and a representative of Sunstar.  
 

The award will be presented during the annual business meeting of the PRG, held during the General Session & Exhibition of the IADR. The amount of the award of $10,000 and is for consumables lab equipment, research-related expenses, and/or travel and lodging, but not for salary compensation or institutional overhead. 
 

1.     A research protocol (max 4 pages, A4 pages,12 point font size including the following: 
   1.     an abstract (max 300 words)  
   2.    a brief but concise background to the proposed research project, clearly stating the significance of problem, and the innovation of the proposed studies
   3.    clear aims and objectives
   4.    concise description of the methods, including sample size/power estimates, and statistics max 20 references (not included in the 4 pages)
   5.    estimated budget allocation
2.     A CV (max 2 pages)
3.    A personal statement on how the Award will benefit the applicant (max 1 page), including the applicant's IADR membership number.
4.    A letter of recommendation from the applicant's Department Head or Dean including a statement that the applicant will be allocated designated time for execution of the proposed study.
5.    A letter of agreement from any proposed collaborator/s, clearly stating that the equipment and resources needed for the specific project will be provided.

Applications exceeding the word limit or page limit or missing any of the above-mentioned documents may not be considered. 

• The judging panel will be comprised of 5 members of the PRG group with expertise in artificial intelligence in the field of periodontology. No panel member should have any conflict of interest regarding the proposed project.
• The main judging criteria will be the importance and scientific quality of the project, and executability within a 12-month period.
• The PRG reserves the right to withhold an award.
• Previous winners are allowed to re-apply, but preference will be given to new applicants. 

Funding will be provided in the form of a check or a wire-transfer to the winners' institution or the host-laboratory within 3 months after the annual business meeting of the PRG. The project should commence at the latest 6 months from the announcement of the winner of the award at the annual business meeting of the PRG, held during the General Session & Exhibition of the IADR.

The winner of the award must submit a short report of the conducted project, including any results achieved, at the latest 14 months after commencing of the project.

The winner of the award must submit an abstract for presenting results achieved through the project supported by the award at the General Session & Exhibition of the IADR at the latest 2 years after the award is conferred. The winner should inform the PRG about the submission and also on the acceptance of the abstract.

The winner must acknowledge the award in any publications (including abstracts) related to the project, with the following sentence: "This project was partly financed through the IADR PRG SUNSTAR Foundation AWARD, supported by the Sunstar Foundation".
