Ivar Mjör Award for Practice Based Research

Nominations for the Ivar Mjör award can be made by anyone, but MUST satisfy the following requirements:

• Nominee must be a current or past member of the IADR.
• Nominations must include

• a. Curriculum vitae that provide supporting evidence that the nominee has made distinguished contributions to practice-based research.

  b. A nomination letter that  highlight the major reasons, body of research and innovations for which the individual is being nominated

  c. A publication list, that should be divided into two parts.

        - Firstly, all publication in the field of “practice-based research” 

        - Secondly, “other publications”

• A letter of nomination should highlight the major reasons, body of research and innovations for which the individual is being nominated. Work contributing to the justification for the award should have resulted in publications in scientific, peer-reviewed journals of international standing.

Individuals may not self-nominate.

A plaque of recognition and a cash award of $2,000 USD. The cash award is intended to contribute to travel and associated costs to attend the IADR General Session at which the award will be made. The award recipient will be formally announced and honoured during the IADR NP-BR Business Meeting at the IADR General Session.

The selection committee shall consist of three standing committee members of the IADR NP-BR, together including one past recipient of the award, once the award has been established. Unsuccessful nominations which satisfy the requirements for the award may be carried forward for two years. The IADR NP-BR reserves the right to withhold an award.

Deadline for nominations is Six months in advance of the IADR General Assembly at which it is hoped the award will be made.

1.    The award  should be made to a scientist of high standing with a substantial record on practice based research studies of international standing. As a guide, candidates under consideration for the award should have a H-index ≥20, according to Web of Science.
2.    Practice based research studies are defined as follows:
        a.    Clinical research conducted in  primary care -, or general and community-based dental practice to investigate effectiveness of                 treatments, procedures and protocols in everyday clinical practice. 
        b.    Research based on data originating from (possibly generated in) dental practices.
        c.    Research on decision making by dental practitioners and members of the dental team.
3.    All types of clinical studies e.g., retrospective, prospective, surveys, can be considered. 
4.    Possible indicators for identifying the winner may include: 
        a.     An H-Index in practice-based research ≥20,according to Web of Science 
        b.    The five most significant publications in practice-based research being cited more than 100 times.
        c.     Notwithstanding the above, the award may be given to any scientist who has shown an exceptional contribution to practice                      based research e.g. founding of a (inter)national practice-based research network, innovative approach or contribution to                        decision making, treatment outcomes and cost effectiveness, public health etc.
 

The Award will be given only if a candidate of sufficient merit applies or is nominated.
