IADR Judith Albino Award for Outstanding Research in Health Equity

The Behavioral, Epidemiologic and Health Services Research Group (BESHR) of IADR announces the Judith Albino Award for Outstanding Research in Health Equity. The Award recognizes a single research investigation published, or accepted for publication, within a given calendar year. The recognized research can involve the discovery or exploration of new manifestations of inequities, or new concepts in understanding inequities in oral health, or new approaches to addressing inequities in oral health care.

Dr. Judith Albino is President Emerita of the University of Colorado and Professor Emerita in both the Schools of Public Health and Dental Medicine at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. Dr. Albino has more than 45 years of experience in research and writing on the prevention of oral diseases and promotion of oral health in children, adolescents, and adults, with special emphasis on minority racial/ethnic and other populations experiencing oral health disparities or inequities. Dr. Albino directed the only NIDCR funded Center for Native Oral Health Research. A unique feature of the center was its emphasis on conducting community-based participatory research with American Indian tribes to reduce oral health disparities in children. Dr. Albino has championed the development of precise and accurate assessment for oral disease and behaviors related to social and behavioral determinants in high risk populations. Dr. Albino is Project Co-Director and Scientific Editor for the 2021 NIH Report on Oral Health in America: Advances and Challenges, which examines progress in oral health over the past two decades, describes challenges and opportunities that currently affect oral health, and lays the foundation for a vision for the future that will incorporating oral health equity for all.
