Cartilage plays a central role in the growth and morphogenesis of the craniofacial skeleton. Despite its critical functional importance, craniofacial cartilage has traditionally been considered outside the scope of maxillofacial reconstruction due to its limited intrinsic regenerative capacity. This webinar aims to deepen participants’ understanding of the fundamental principles governing cartilage development, with a particular focus on cartilage stem cells within the craniofacial complex. The session will also explore how disruptions in cartilage developmental programs contribute to the pathogenesis of archetypal craniofacial bone diseases.
Learning Objectives:
Describe the fundamental concepts of cartilage development and cartilage stem cells in the craniofacial skeleton.
Understand the unique mechanisms that maintain craniofacial cartilage and how their dysregulation leads to craniofacial bone disease.
