Alexandria, VA, USA – A symposium exploring the role of artificial intelligence in research and clinical practice across various fields of dentistry was presented at the 103rd General Session of the IADR, which was held in conjunction with the IADR/Pan European Regional Congress on June 25-28, 2025 in Barcelona, Spain.
Advances in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) are revolutionizing dental and oral health diagnostics, patient risk stratification, and treatment planning. This session explored the transformative role of AI in clinical practice as well as research across various dental fields, including periodontology, oral pathology, and oral surgery.
Through diverse presentations, attendees learned how clinicians and researchers use cutting-edge ML tools to enhance diagnostic precision, predict individual treatment outcomes, and optimize clinical decision-making. Additionally, attendees learned about the unique challenges associated with applied AI in oral medicine. The session covered applications ranging from computer vision to prognostic ML modeling to generative AI, showcasing how these advanced technologies are being integrated into both clinical practice and dental research in order to advance our understanding of oral diseases and improve patient care across disciplines.
